 Going to Campeche is more than traveling in space, since its histories, constructions, traditions and countless legends represent a journey back in time to the mystical pre-Hispanic period, until the period of Spanish conquest and until the time when the city was threatened by savage pirates.  


Almost all the tourist attractions of Campeche can be met on foot or by taking a taxi and in minutes you will be in the right place. It is not a very big city, it might take you two to three days to know these tourist attractions:

Santiago's Bastion

It is located between Av. 16 de Septiembre and Calle 49 of the city of Campeche. This bulwark dates from the 18th century, currently inside you can visit the Xmuch-haltún Botanic Garden.

San Francisco Bastion

This was one of the largest bastions of the city of Campeche. Part of it was demolished in 1889 for the installation of tram tracks. Today it forms together with the Bastion of San Juan a light and sound show and a vaulted auditorium. It is located at Calle 57 and Calle 18. Campeche.

Door of the Earth

It is located on Calle 18 and the junction of 59th street. It is a wall that used to defend access to the city. It had a pit and embrasures from which guns and firearms were fired. Nowadays, there are performances where the confrontations between the pirates and inhabitants are recreated between a show of light and sound.

Bastion of the Soledad

Like all other bulwarks in Campeche, it was built to protect the city from invasions, it is located on 8th Street between 57 and 59, on the corner of Parque Principal, downtown. Sculptures of the Mayan culture are currently on display.

Bastion of Santa Rosa

It is at the junction of the Circuit Baluarte with Calle 14, you can access by a ramp to the roof and from here admire the beautiful towers of the Cathedral of Campeche. It also has a small gallery with works by local artists.

Bastion of San Carlos

It is located on Calle 8 between 65 and 63, is one of the most important in the city, as it is currently the Museum of Campeche.

Fort of San José el Alto

Visit it at the end of Avenida Francisco Morazán in the colony San Jose el Alto, near the monument to Benito Juáre. You can access its upper part where four gunboats are located with their respective parapets and two checkpoints. It is one of the most beautiful forts in Campeche.

Fort of San Miguel

It is one of the most spectacular Fuertes. It was built on top of a hill and dates from the 18th century, its roof has ancient canyons and in its rooms is currently the Museum of Mayan Culture.

Cathedral of Campeche

It dates from 1705 and has a Baroque style, is located in front of the main square, 55th Street between 8 and 10, of the Historic Center of Campeche. Inside there is a courtyard with a chapel to Jesus of Nazareth.

Near Campeche you can also visit the Mayan archeological sites of Balamku, Becan, Chunhuhub, Chicanna, Bec, Kanki, Calakmul, Edzná, Xpuhil and Hochob.
